About

Our vision

Work Hard, Be Creative, Listen Carefully, and Exceed Expectations.

From concept, through development and into project completion, we are committed to a design approach which demands the full creative involvement of the architect and the client. The process is one of listening, asking, analysing and engaging each client as a participant in design. The collaboration explores possible physical solutions suggested from a thorough understanding of the project’s needs and unique parameters of the site. The shared goal is to reveal the project’s singular nature and to discover through design an identity that is individual and memorable.

We do not promote a particular style of architecture. Rather, we look to the physical, programmatic and social influences of the building’s context to guide us to an appropriate architectural design that creates a memorable sense of place. Each of our projects tries to enrich one’s experience of space, light, context, materials and craftsmanship through the experience of architecture.

Our primary concern is to develop concepts and images that are responsive to the requirements and aspirations of our clients within the realistic constraints imposed by schedule and budget.

Our team

Peter Sugar - Director

Bachelor of Architecture (Melb)

Peter Sugar graduated from Melbourne University School of Architecture in 1976. After a period as a project architect on a variety of major developments in Britain, Italy and the Middle East, he returned to Melbourne, Australia and was for some years a director of Caulfield, Krivanek & Sugar, Architects.

On leaving to form Sugar & Company, he established an architectural practice dedicated to meeting clients needs through exceptional client service. Peter is a firm believer that this begins by listening - listening to understand the clients’ needs and wants, being flexible and following through is the only way to “get it right”. This allows Peter to provide the information required to allow clients to make the best informed decision.
Another of Peter’s strengths is utilizing his unique problem solving skills to coordinate team efforts to address complex design issues and challenging budgets. “I enjoy managing projects by leading the entire team to work together toward a common goal - a successful project and a happy client.”
